I like the idea of Leto II attaining his powers by merging wirh the worm as both a gift and a terrible curse. It's just way to common in movies and such the person gets super powers and he's just more powerful as if there aren't downsides, especially the villains.

I think the response to the shooter/farmer hypotheses is that yes, sure, the universe could actually be like that. It could be a simulation or created by god or popped into existence 5 minutes ago just as it is. But there are infinite possibilities so all we can entertain are those we have evidence for. We began developing theories based on observation and repeated testing, and it's worked better than anything else we've tried. For a few hundred years now, it's been our most reliable way of uncovering reality. Yes, its picture of "reality" could still be wrong. But it wouldn't be our first rodeo. Science constantly discovers its picture of reality is wrong. We observe inconsistencies, so we come up with a better picture. Usually if we were this far off, we'd see some big inconsistencies. So this scenario seems unlikely. But sure, there's no guarantees.

I just finished book one. Wow!! It’s a dizzying and disconcerting read. It’s like if Carl Sagan’s Contact had been written by Kurt Vonnegut and HP Lovecraft. Great summary!

I personally loves the characters in the books a lot more because more in depth. however do need a bit understanding of the time and culture when the story was happening. for example Dr. Ye's daughter was born when she was still at the red coast, it's impossible for her just having an affair with a foreigner and giving birth to a kid by her self and raise her up in that time and background. understand changes has to be made to suit an US style drama and Hollywood audience, but I wouldn't say it's close to the book, maybe the simplification on characters and some science ideas made it easier to grasp by a wider audience.

When I read the “3 body problem”, I thought that trisolarians were plant-like beings.. because of the dehydration . But small bug-like beings makes sense also.

"Patient Zero" would be whoever created the concept of a "god" being a real entity, passed through person after person for years and years as TRUTH and not a CONCEPT etc, but instead it was taking fiction literally that some people even now are still convinced things like curing blindness without modern science, or parting the waves of a sea with your hands/"will of god" or whatever.... Yeah it's just a virus, more like a plague tbh.

I happened on 'Quinns Ideas' by chance. I have never in my 50 plus, plus years read actual science fiction but something about whatever the video was about peaked my interest...or, it might be because I was burned so badly by literally smoking hot oil from my elbows down, spent almost a month in the Dallas TX Parkland Burn unit and had to have a lot of skin grafts. I had nothing else to distract me from my pain so decided to give it a try...I am so glad it happened. my hands were wrapped and I could do nothing with them so I had a nurse tape my stylus to my hand wrappings and put my tablet on the tray in front of me...I didn't want to commit to a series as long as 'Dune' so i looked at all the titles of his videos and compared them to something i could borrow from the library. I settled on 'Hyperion' without watching his video, liking the name and thinking it was a stand alone book rather than a series. I read it. I loved it! Really loved it!!! Happily knowing by then it was a series, I read 'The Fall of Hyperion' then...OMG my library didn't carry 'Endymion'. SCANDALOUS! I purchased it. Now I ordered the box set because there is still one more in the series and I will likely read them again. I am out of the hospital now and will add science fiction to my library fom here on out. I will be out of work a while so I may even try 'Dune'. Thank you so much for introducing me to a genre I would not otherwise have tried. 💕🐾💙

I would recommend that people read the Epic of Gilgamesh. The second half of the story is about a journey to the secrets of life. Which, to say is hard not to see the correlations in this book

I'm so glad you made this video, I just finished the trilogy and for the life of me couldn't put what happened together, and hoped I would find a video to explain it more.

In terms of pure "combat" abilities, you really have to give the Honored Matres some credit. Specifically, I would put Murbella either right above or below Miles Teg. They are both seen easily defeating Honored Matres. I would even argue these two characters could find ways to kill Paul, who, although prescient, is never seen moving anywhere near that fast. In a fight to the death, Paul could foresee the attacks, sure, but its a matter of time before one catches him. Also, there's the theme of getting trapped into your visions that is a big theme in Dune, so it would be very fitting for Paul to forsee his failure and have no way to stop it. Wouldn't be the first time.
